A new addition on the farmPosted on 2013.08.20 at 20:45

We have a new addition on the farm - mother duck and two ducklings. Mother duck was very creative in selecting a place to have her nest - she built it inside abandoned manure tank. This is a very big, concrete barrel, with sides about 3 meters high. At the bottom of this tank over the years accumulated some dirt and rain water, creating small lake with island of grass in the middle. This is probably a safest place one can imagine - being surrounded with 3 meter high concrete walls, but I'm also concerned - how would the duckling leave this place? They would not be able to get out until they learn to fly, but is this barrel big enough for them to practice?
